Once you’re done creating a note, you can save it for personal use on your Quip account or share it with other users through their usernames or email addresses. Once you complete the task, you can mark the checkbox to automatically strike through the text, indicating completion. You can create checklists, which consist of checkboxes attached to lines of text representing tasks that you want to complete. Similarly, you can upload multimedia directly from your device.Īnother great feature of the text editor is the checklist tool, which comes in handy for task management. Quip lets you fetch photos from Unsplash, a popular stock photography website, or insert animated GIFs from Giphy. You can insert photos or videos when typing in the text editor. Likewise, you can use the text highlighter to highlight specific blocks of text, which also helps with identifying vital information within a note. You can also change the text color, which helps identify important blocks of text or make them aesthetically pleasing. For example, you can bold, underline, italicize, or strike-through text. Quip has a pretty good editor that allows users to format text extensively. You’ll see several options, including creating a new document, which you should click, and the app will redirect you to a text editor where you can type in notes. To do this, look for the compose icon resembling a pen on a notebook and click on it. The first feature you should notice on your Quip dashboard is creating notes. You can create a new account for your subscription or sign in with your existing Salesforce or Slack account. Office 2016 will bring online collaboration tools to Microsoft’s desktop productivity apps so that users of those applications can work together on shared documents as well.As we’ve mentioned, you can sign up for the Quip Starter package directly on its website without any external help. The news comes as Microsoft is gearing up for the next major release of its Office suite later this year. It’s the Google comparison that may serve Quip better, at least in the short run, since it’s also free for personal use, like Google Drive. In a post to Medium discussing his company’s development efforts, Taylor claimed the app can open documents faster than both Word for the Mac and Google Docs. Quip’s new app is another swing at Microsoft Office’s dominance of the productivity suite market. The company works with more than 30,000 businesses, including high-profile clients like Facebook, CNN, Instacart, Al Jazeera and Wealthfront. The growth stems from increased use at work, Quip said in a blog post. In June, roughly half of all daily usage of Quip took place through its desktop website, up from 20 percent when Quip was first introduced two years ago. Since then, the company, which was founded by former Facebook CTO Bret Taylor and Google App Engine creator Kevin Gibbs, added support for spreadsheets as well as Android devices. The service launched two years ago with an iPhone, iPad and web app that only handled collaborative word processing. It also works with Apple’s Handoff feature, so people can pass a document back and forth between their Mac, iPhone and iPad. Mac users get a few extra goodies when they install the application, since it works with Apple’s Spotlight search feature to pull up their personal documents and all of the documents shared with them. Quip Desktop also offers push notifications, so people will see when they get a new document shared with them, or when another user sends them a message inside Quip. ![]()
